Savannah’s Favorite West Side Haunt
One of the most eagerly awaited and anticipated cocktail bars in Savannah has finally opened, just in time for the celebrations of the holiday season. The Savoy Society is located in the Historic District of Downtown Savannah. The bar is on the ground floor of Drayton Towers on Liberty Street, which makes it easily accessible to other bars, hotels, and restaurants in the area. It’s a great place to stop in and grab a drink and a snack, but be warned–you may easily pass more than a couple of hours at The Savoy Society before you realize what’s happened.
The Savoy Society manages to combine the casual comfort of a dive bar with the sophistication of a cocktail bar. Bar and table seating are available, as well as a number of slouchy chairs and wicker couches. The atmosphere is one of refinement, without excess or opulence.
The Savoy Society is the brainchild of Savannah’s most renowned mixologists, so the cocktail menu should come as no surprise. Of course the drink menu includes local beers, wine, and mocktails. The drink menu of The Savoy Society offers draft versions of some of its more popular cocktails, such as the Modern Love, and Savannah’s famous Chatham Artillery Punch. The “House Cocktail” list includes classics like the AppleTini and the Seven and Seven. But those looking to try something a little different can order up the Eyes Without a Face, a cocktail of carrot juice, tequila, orange curacao and ginger, or the Bergen Arms, made with mezcal, fernet vallet, turmeric and passion fruit.
The food menu at The Savoy Society is carefully curated to complement the beverage menu. Bar snacks such as ceviche, crispy Spam sliders and Flatbreads are savory yet simple, and flavorful without being fussy. Sandwiches, salads, and cheese and charcuterie boards are also on the menu.
